At the recently held 2025 Tianmen Clothing E-commerce Industry Conference, Xia Lingmin, the secretary-general of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, stated that in the face of the complex and volatile global economic and trade environment, China's textile industry, with a firm attitude of "not fearing difficulties and daring to innovate", has directly confronted the challenges of the international market. Under the support of the country's macro policies, the entire industry has achieved a stable growth trend.
Data shows that from January to May, the main economic operation indicators of the textile industry, such as production, domestic sales, exports and investment, all achieved growth. The overall performance was better than expected, and the economic operation was basically stable. The industrial added value of large-scale textile enterprises across the country increased by 3.4% year-on-year. The retail sales of above-scale clothing, shoes, hats and needle and textile products increased by 3.3% year-on-year, with the growth rate accelerating by 1.3 percentage points compared with the same period of the previous year. The growth rate of online retail channels shows signs of continuous improvement. From January to May, the national online retail sales of clothing products increased by 1.2% year-on-year. The total export value of textiles and garments increased by 1%. The completed fixed asset investment in the textile industry, the garment industry and the chemical fiber industry increased by 15.1%, 27.7% and 16.4% respectively year-on-year, achieving relatively fast growth.
Under the overall stability of the industry supply side and the intensified and expanded support of the national "two major" and "two new" policies, leading enterprises are accelerating their transformation and upgrading towards high-end, intelligent and green development. Xia Lingmin said that this year marks the explosive year when artificial intelligence deeply empowers thousands of industries. The China National Textile and Apparel Council is actively exploring new paths for the integration of AI technology with the textile and apparel industry. Since the beginning of the year, the Circulation Branch has conducted on-site research in Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Puyuan, Keqiao, Changshu, Qingdao and other places to comprehensively understand the application practice and achievements of AI technology in the textile and garment industry.
